Have the Courage to Be Who You Are

The duties of human beings are distinguished according to the qualities born of their own nature. ~ Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna has the skills, strength, training, and courage of a great warrior. Yet, standing on the battlefield, overwhelmed by what lies ahead, he wants to put down his bow and walk away.

Krishna reminds him not to abandon his swadharma simply because the path is difficult, uncomfortable, or uncertain. Pick up your bow. Do what you are meant to do.

That is the deeper message of Vijaya Dashami, too. Victory begins when we overcome the doubts, fears, and inner conflicts that keep us from fulfilling our true nature. The greatest battle is often within us.

Be selfish enough to discover your swadharma and selfless enough to honor it.

Discover what is true to your nature. Honor your gifts. Develop your skills. And show up.

This Vijaya Dashami, may you find the courage to be who you are, the wisdom to know what is right, and the devotion to follow through. May the victory within you become the victory of your life.

Happy Vijaya Dashami to all!

P.S. Thanks to Arun for inspiring this thought this morning.
